Why older versions of windows cannot support:- Computer Operating Systems were originally set up for simple scripting like English/Latin.  The coding used in this case is ASCII, which is basically a 255 (8-bit) codes for characters. Previous versions of Hindi font might have a toggle to alternate with ASCII to display the characters. Operating Systems such as Win3.1, Win95, Win98 etc supported this type of scripting.

Naturally world's all languages including Chinese could not be accommodated with this 8-bit coding limited to 255 characters. Accordingly an Unicode consortium was formed to standardize world's all languages coding so that they do not interfere among themselves. Later Unicode developed UTF-8, a 16-bit form, that is designed to be used with existing ASCII-based system as base, and confirming International Standard Organization (ISO).  This supports about 65000 characters including Hindi. In addition to UTF-8, Unicode also has an extended UTF-16 to support all the characters of the world including historic scripts.

How to setup for ClicknWrite:- So the operating system must support this new standard of coding for characters.  Win2000 supports this & in WinXP it is fully implemented.  Therefore minimum requirement of our software is Win2000, but preferably WinXP.  To set up WinXP (or Win2K) to handle Hindi, please click WindowsXP above.
